Silent Device

A "Silent Device" refers to a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet, configured to use Silent Phone, a secure communication application developed by Silent Circle. This application is designed to ensure that all communications, including voice calls, video calls, text messages, and file transfers, are end-to-end encrypted and authenticated. This means that the data is encrypted on the sender's device and only decrypted on the recipient's device, making it nearly impossible for any unauthorized parties to intercept or access the information.

Silent Devices do not require any special hardware, such as dedicated phones, headsets, or SIM cards. They operate on standard iOS and Android devices, leveraging the existing hardware to provide secure communication capabilities. This makes them very accessible and easy to deploy within an organization without needing additional infrastructure investments.

Silent Phone, the primary application used on Silent Devices, provides several key features. It offers secure voice and video calling, ensuring that conversations remain private and clear with high-definition (HD) quality. The app uses "Security Words," a unique feature that allows users to verify the security of their calls by comparing specific code words displayed on their screens during a conversation. This helps to detect and prevent man-in-the-middle attacks, where a third party could intercept and potentially alter the communication.

In addition to calls, Silent Devices support Silent Text, a messaging feature that includes secure text messaging and file transfers. Messages can be set to automatically delete after a specified period, known as a burn timer, which can range from one minute to 90 days. Users also have the option to manually delete messages from all devices involved in the conversation, ensuring that sensitive information does not persist longer than necessary.

Silent Devices are also enterprise-ready, meaning they can be easily managed and deployed within large organizations. Features like Single Sign-On (SSO), integration with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems, and compatibility with Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions make them suitable for secure, widespread use. Data minimization practices ensure that minimal user data is stored, reducing the risk of unauthorized data exposure. This makes Silent Devices an ideal solution for businesses, NGOs, and government agencies that need to maintain high levels of communication security.
